61% of marketers say community building is now their #1 goal for working with creators.
Great.
But where, exactly, are you building that community?
Finding 500 creators in a marketplace isn’t community.
Sending campaign briefs isn’t community.
Generating millions of impressions isn’t necessarily community.
Community needs somewhere to accumulate.
What if your creators, customers, employees, partners, vendors, and experts weren’t simply the audience for your marketing?
What if they became the media?
One person becomes a story.
That story introduces their network.
Someone in that network becomes the next participant.
They become another story.
That’s not just content.
That’s a participation loop.
Social media can amplify it.
It doesn’t have to own it.

For three days, you built the center of an industry.
Thousands of people walked through the doors. Exhibitors told their stories. Speakers shared their expertise. Sponsors fought for attention. Deals were made, relationships started, and entire communities came together under one roof.
Then Sunday night arrived.
The booths came down. The signs disappeared. And everyone went home.
But what if the most valuable thing you built wasn't the event?
What if it was the community that showed up for it?
And what if, instead of waiting another year to bring them together again, you gave them a media platform that worked 365 days a year?
That's where this story begins.

TODAY’S AmpLever MARKETING SIGNAL
Tuesday 10/6/2026 - Advertising is moving toward a market where machines buy media from machines
Advertising-technology company pubX has raised a $5 million Series A led by Chicago Ventures and acquired media-governance company Compliant. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
pubX is building buyer and seller agents that can plan, negotiate, purchase, sell, and optimize advertising directly—without routing every transaction through conventional demand-side and supply-side platforms.
Advertisers establish the brief, commercial rules, approved publishers, and level of autonomy. Agents then evaluate publisher audiences and inventory, explain their decisions, and execute approved transactions. Compliant’s media-quality and data-integrity signals will be incorporated into those decisions.
_____
WHY IT MATTERS
Agentic advertising could remove cost and friction from a notoriously complicated supply chain. But it also changes what makes a publisher discoverable.
When buying agents evaluate thousands of opportunities, the advantage may belong to media properties with trusted content, clearly defined audiences, reliable first-party data, strong contextual relevance, and transparent governance.
Owned media therefore becomes more important—not less. Organizations need a credible media asset that machines can evaluate and humans intentionally choose, built from direct relationships rather than audience data rented from another platform.

Someone recently asked me a very simple question:
“What is AmpLever?”
I laughed.
Not because it was a bad question. Because it reminded me of something every business owner eventually discovers:
We get it. But does our intended customer get it?
We spend every day inside our businesses. We know the terminology, the product, the technology and the vision. Sometimes we get so close to what we've built that we forget other people haven't been living with it for the last year.
So forget the words “digital magazine” for a minute.
Here’s what AmpLever actually does.
AmpLever gives you your own online media company.
Think Forbes, Entrepreneur, Vogue or your favorite industry publication—but built around your industry, your community, your customers or your area of expertise.
It has its own website. Its own brand. Its own articles. Its own contributors. Its own advertising opportunities. Its own audience. Its own revenue opportunities.
But there's one very important difference:
You don't have to hire a newsroom full of writers to create the content.
Let's say you're a real estate agent. Instead of spending every morning trying to think of something clever to post on Instagram, you could own a local media publication featuring the people and businesses in your community.
You invite the owner of the neighborhood bakery to tell their story.
✓ They click a link.
✓ They choose the questions they want to answer.
✓ They answer them, upload their photos and publish their story.
You didn't interview them. You didn't write the article. You didn't hire a content creator.
Then something even more important happens.
The bakery owner proudly shares their feature with their customers and their network.
Those people arrive at your website to read it.
Next you feature the yoga studio. Then the restaurant. Then the local entrepreneur. Then the nonprofit. Then the school. Then the mortgage broker.
Each person contributes another story.
And each story can introduce another audience to your publication.
When those readers arrive, they're not just reading the story that brought them there. Across our publishing network, readers visit an average of 4.7 articles per visit.
Now multiply that by 10 contributors.
100 contributors.
1,000 contributors.
That's Participation Media.
Instead of your company creating content and then paying to distribute it, the people around your company participate in creating the media and have their own reason to distribute it.
And because all of those stories live on a media property you control, rather than disappearing into someone else's social feed, you're building Owned Media.
That's AmpLever.com
We provide the technology and infrastructure that allows:
A realtor to become the media for their community.
An association to become the media for its industry.
A conference to become the media for its speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and attendees.
A creator to become the media for their niche.
A brand to become the media for its customers.
An entrepreneur to become the media for an industry they want to enter.
You don't need an audience before you start.
The people you feature help you build the audience.
And suddenly, “owning a magazine” makes a lot more sense.
You're not buying a prettier way to publish articles.
You're building a media company where your community helps create the content, distribute the stories and grow the audience.
That's why we called it AmpLever - "Amplified Leverage".
Now when someone asks me, “What does AmpLever actually do?”
I think I finally have the simple answer:
We give you the infrastructure to own the media company for your community, industry or niche—and a system that helps the people you feature build it with you.

STOP PAYING TO BUILD SOMEONE ELSE’S BUSINESS.
Think about your marketing budget for a second.
Your team creates the content.
You pay the salaries.
You shoot the videos.
You design the graphics.
You build the audience.
You generate the engagement.
Then you hand all of that work to a platform you don’t own.
And after you've spent years building followers there?
You may have to pay the platform again just to reach them.
That's a strange business model when you really think about it.
I'm not saying stop using social media.
I'm saying stop building your entire marketing strategy on somebody else's real estate.
What if some of that same time, talent and money went toward building your own media property?
A platform where your customers become the stories.
Your partners become contributors.
Your community gets a voice.
Your company builds a growing library of content, relationships, authority and discovery that belongs to your ecosystem.
Then Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and every other social platform can still play an important role.
But their role changes.
They're distribution. Not the destination.
You use their networks to bring people back into something you control.
That's the shift I'm betting on with AmpLever.
Stop spending all of your energy helping someone else's platform become more interesting.
Make YOUR business the destination.
Build your own network.
Give your community a voice.
Turn the people around your business into the media.
That's Owned Media.
That's Participation Media.
That's AmpLever.

Realtors: you don't need another “viral video.”
Your greatest marketing asset might already be all around you:
Your community.
Your future buyer or seller probably doesn't need a real estate agent today.
But tomorrow morning, they're stopping at their favorite bakery.
✓ Their kids have soccer practice.
✓ They're hitting the yoga studio.
✓ Meeting friends for lunch.
✓ Picking something up from the local organic grocer.
✓ Ordering meal prep from the business down the street.
These are the businesses already woven into your future clients' lives.
So what if you became the person telling their stories?
Imagine licensing your own local digital magazine and becoming its Editor-in-Chief.
You feature the bakery. The yoga instructor. The restaurant owner. The coach. The grocer. The entrepreneur.
And on every story?
Your face. Your name. Your publication.
Instead of constantly trying to make yourself go viral, you give your entire community a reason to introduce you to their networks.
And what if...
It took less than 20 minutes a day to operate?
And your local magazine could actually make money, instead of becoming another marketing expense?
That's a very different way to build a real estate brand.
Let's start simple.

You can start a newsletter...Or you can become Editor-in-Chief.
Those are not the same thing.
A newsletter is relatively easy to start. Pick a platform. Build a template. Write something. Convince people to subscribe. Then comes the hard part: you have to keep feeding it.
Every week, you need another reason to open.
Another subject line.
Another issue.
Another promotion.
Another push to grow the list.
And in most cases, the company is still doing most of the work. The company writes. The company distributes. The audience consumes.
There is nothing wrong with newsletters. A newsletter is a valuable distribution channel.
But what if you built the thing the newsletter distributes?
That is where I think the opportunity gets much bigger.
With AmpLever, you're not licensing another email template. You're licensing the infrastructure to launch your own branded, contributor-powered digital media platform. Your customers, members, partners, founders, experts and community can become the people being interviewed, published and discovered.
Now the growth equation changes.
Instead of asking, "How do I get another 1,000 people to subscribe to my newsletter?"
You can ask, "Who are the next 100 people our industry should know?"
Feature them.
Give them something they're proud to share.
Their networks discover your publication.
Some become readers.
Some become contributors.
Some become partners, advertisers or sponsors.
And the archive keeps growing.
That's Participation Media. One story can activate one network. Many stories can begin activating an ecosystem.
And there's another difference that I don't think businesses should underestimate: "Prestige"
Nobody introduces themselves at an industry event by proudly saying:
"I'm the person who sends our company newsletter."
But Founder & Editor-in-Chief of [Your Industry] Magazine?
That's a different position.
You're no longer simply marketing into your industry.
You're interviewing it.
You're featuring its leaders.
You're recognizing its companies.
You're documenting its ideas.
You're creating the podium other people want to stand on.
Over time, the publication can become a permanent, searchable archive of the people and ideas shaping that ecosystem, while creating inventory for advertising, sponsorships, directories, events, memberships, awards and other revenue opportunities.
And here's the part I love:
You can still have the newsletter.
But now the newsletter isn't the media property.
It's the distribution channel for the media property you own.
That's a radically different strategy.
Don't just build a mailing list.
Build the publication your industry wants to be featured in.
Then put Editor-in-Chief next to your name.

Stop spending all your time creating content for them.
Create media about them.
Tell their stories.
Celebrate their wins.
Give them something worth sharing.
Suddenly, your customers aren't just your audience.
They're your distribution network.
Stop asking, “What should we post today?”
Start asking:
“Whose story should we tell?”

I’ve spent years telling businesses the same thing:
Your customer should be more visible in your marketing than your company is.
That idea eventually became a book. Building Customer-Centric Brands: The Art of Elevating Customers by Sharing Their Story explores a simple shift: stop treating customers as the people at the end of your marketing funnel and start treating them as participants in the growth of the brand.
AmpLever is what happens when I take that philosophy and turn it into infrastructure.
Instead of asking a marketing team to constantly invent something for the brand to say, I would rather ask:
Who around this company deserves the microphone?
Your customers have stories.
Your partners have expertise.
Your members have accomplishments.
Your vendors have perspectives.
Your community has ideas.
Give them the platform.
That is why the example in this post matters to me.
We didn't have to create another advertisement telling people how wonderful a company is.
We featured Kristy Cline and KC Designs.
Her expertise becomes the content.
Her work becomes the story.
Her network has a reason to share it.
Their networks discover the publication.
And every new story becomes another doorway into everything already published.
That's where Customer-Centric Marketing becomes more than a content strategy.
It becomes a network effect.
Traditional marketing says:
Company → Content → Audience
What we're building looks more like:
Community → Stories → Networks → New Audiences → More Community → More Stories
And unlike a social post that disappears down someone else's feed, those stories accumulate on media the organization controls.
That's the part I've become increasingly obsessed with.
Don't just rent distribution. Build something worth distributing.
Don't merely build an audience.
Build a platform where the people in that audience have something worth bringing their audience to.
That's Customer-Centric Marketing.
That's owned media.
And that's why I built AmpLever.
